Lausana (SUI), 1 de febrero, 2010 - El 31 de enero de 2010, los nadadores de aguas abiertas se reunieron en la primera etapa de la FINA Marathon Swimming World Cup, de 10 kilómetros, con sede en Santos, Brasil.
Como en 2009, Ana Marcela Cunha (BRA) tomó el oro en la carrera inaugural del circuito, con un tiempo de 2h16m48s. Martina Grimaldi (ITA) ganó la plata con 2h16m50s, seguida de cerca por su compatriota Alice Franco, tercera con 2h16min51s. El cuarto y quinto puestos se concedieron a Larisa Ilchenko (RUS, octavo de la Copa del Mundo en 2009) y Ángela Maurer (GER, segundo en la clasificación general del año pasado), respectivamente.
En la rama varonil, la carrera fue aún más emocionante, con Evgeny Drattsev (RUS), quien tocó primero en 2h14m12s03 y Chad Ho (RSA, una de las revelaciones en el Campeonato del Mundo FINA 2009, donde obtuvo la medalla de bronce en los 5 km) terminó segundo en 2h14min12s44 (¡a 0.41s diferencia después de 10 km y más de dos horas en el agua!). La medalla de bronce fue para Allan do Carmo (BRA), quien cronometró 2h14m13s. El brasileño fue medallista de plata en la clasificación general de la serie 2009.

FINA 10KM MARATHON SWIMMING WORLD CUP 2010 Drattsev and Cunha win first race in Santos (BRA)
Lausanne (SUI), February 1, 2010 – On January 31, 2010, open water swimmers gathered for the first leg of the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup in Santos, Brazil.
As in 2009, Ana Marcela Cunha (BRA) seized gold in the circuit’s inaugural race, timing 2h16m48s. Martina Grimaldi (ITA) won silver in 2h16m50s and was closely followed by her compatriot Alice Franco, timing 2h16min51s. The fourth and fifth places were granted to Larisa Ilchenko (RUS, eighth of the World Cup in 2009) and Angela Maurer (GER, second in last year overall ranking) respectively.
In the men’s field, the race was even more exciting, with Evgeny Drattsev (RUS) touching first in 2h14m12s03 and Chad Ho (RSA, one of the revelations at the 2009 FINA World Championships, where he got the bronze in the 5km) finishing second in 2h14min12s44 (a 0.41s difference after 10km and more than two hours in the water!). The bronze medal was awarded to Allan do Carmo (BRA), who timed 2h14m13s. The Brazilian was silver medallist in the overall ranking of the 2009 series.
